QUOTE (APX @ Yesterday, 3:16 PM)
Oh yeah, I posted the calibers I shot with on that day. handguns/shotgun/rifle (Which was a 270 winchester, so I don't know if it's weak or strong lol) They had the .22 but I didn't get to use that, mostly used the glock and colt. biggrin.gif

.270 Winchester is actually a pretty big caliber. My Panther Arms Mod. A-150 is chambered for 6.8mm Remington SPC; the rifle you shot is just barely a bigger caliber than what my rifle is, and all things equal in terms of comparative ballistics, that fucker can have a violent kick from something that shares a rough casing length as the 5.56mm NATO. I can handle my rifle, because honestly, between that and my dad's Remington .30-30, with me having shot no other rifle calibers besides those two, big calibers are all I know. laugh2.gif So if you shouldered that .270 Winchester with ease, then that's pretty good.

This thread is over 4 months old? Ridiculous! This thread needs UPDATES!

First off, I bought my first new guns. There was a sweet deal on some guns I had my eye on back in March, so I gave myself an early birthday present and put an order in. It took several months for them to actually get in stock, but recently I was able to successfully complete the transaction and pick up my new beauties. Here we are:

A bone-stock Rock Island Armory 1911 GI model in 45ACP, and a Marlin 795. My first 45ACP (and a 1911 because MURIKA) and my first 22LR plinker. Cool! Of course I immediately had plans for the 1911, because if you don't immediately want to modify your 1911 then do you really own a 1911? I figured I'd start simple and just replace the few things I didn't like already, then go shooting and see what else I could do from there. The guns got a cleaning, then right before range day the parts I wanted arrived! So then the 1911 turned into this:

NATO surplus grips, plus two Springfield 7-round steel mags. The mag that came with the gun was an extended 8-rounder with a synthetic pinky rest, which I didn't like. I like the classic look for the 1911, so here we are. I went out to Wal-Mart (thanks MURIKA!) and got ammo for both guns, then the next day we hit up the range. We were a little crunched for time and excited about our new firearms, so sadly no, I don't have any photos or video from the shoot. However, I do at least have a report of what failures occurred. Thankfully, none were the fault of the weapons. They were all my own damn fault for not knowing better.

First, the Marlin wouldn't properly cycle with the ammo I'd bought. It could fire, but then I'd have to rack the bolt manually to cycle it. Eventually it jammed with a round in the chamber because I tried to rack it and it didn't extract properly. I thought that my gun was broken until Sensation! noticed the problem written on my ammo box: 'quiet 22LR'. Without realizing that 22LR came in so many different flavors, I bought the only boxes Wal-Mart had left and they turned out to be subsonic rounds. The Marlin 795 is designed to run High Velocity 22LR only. No wonder! Sure enough, Sensation!'s ammo ran in it perfectly fine without issue. Figures.

The 1911 got broken in on a 100-round box of Winchester, so it didn't have any ammo feeding issues. Instead, the problem I kept running into was that sometimes after ejecting the last round the slide wouldn't lock back. If I rack the slide, it racks freely. WTF? So I go to pull out the mag...and it won't come out. It rattles a little so it's clearly not fused to something, but it's not coming out. I could then use the lip of the second mag to yank it down and out, but I couldn't figure out what was happening at the range. I figured it was just break-in things.

After getting the gun home and taking it apart, I found the problem. The gun is actually fine--in fact, the mag well looks pretty great compared to some not-so-great stories I've heard about old Rock Island 1911s. Plus the new grips I put on had short enough screws that the screws weren't the culprit either, since if they're too long they can stick into the mag well and jam things up too. Instead, the problem was my Springfield magazines. The follower is crap, and can sometimes end up crooked tilted forward in the magazine. If this happens, the little lip that engages the slide lock isn't high enough to actually engage it, and the follower ramp juts out from the edge of the magazine, causing it to jam in the well until you use force to pull it back out.

I ordered a pair of Colt magazines to replace them, which should be here Friday. There's a local range to where I live that has reasonable rates and ammo prices, so I'll probably finish breaking it in sometime this weekend. We'll see. Oh, and the same range has a Sig armorer on site, so I might treat myself to getting the P6 refinished as well.

The hilarious thing is I already know what gun I want to buy next, but I can't do anything about it because I live in Commiefornia and so I can only buy one handgun every 30 days. It's ridiculous, but it's the law, so that's that. Once I can buy one though, it's high time I bought an XD45. am3pkcet won't sell me his (jerk! tongue.gif) so I'll just buy one myself. They're reasonably-priced, I thoroughly enjoyed firing am3pkcet's, and I've been looking for a carry-capable handgun. I think this pretty much fits the bill.

That's about it! cool.gif

That thing is fscking beautiful wub.gif ~ However I'd do 2 further mods if I had the dosh & license on that 1911:

・ replace the trigger with a long CT Brian with non-slip grooves to cut the weight of the pull.
・ get a threaded barrel because... well xiao thinks he's Sean Connery dog! awesome.gif

1. I will be doing a little work on the trigger, but I will not be replacing it. I want the stock Colt design for a reason. I have no interest in 'sporterizing' my 1911. There are plenty of things you can do to the trigger assembly to reduce pull weight without changing the aesthetics, so that's where I'll focus my attention.

2. Threaded barrels are illegal in California, and even if they were legal I would not get one. This is a 1911, not a Walther.

'daww! crying2.gif ... yeah I think it's illegal in pretty much all 48 States besides Reno & Rhode Island laugh.gif

I dunno I like the way threaded barrels look on 1911's and M9's, if only cause they're the most customizable pistols in the world. But yeah Bond never sports anything other than a Walther.

I love the way the new grip makes the gun look tho. Dingo Chavez the protagonist of Clancy's Rainbow Six sported one just like that if I remember the novel correctly. Have fun breaking in the Colt mags! cool.gifv

Threaded barrels are considered part of an 'assault weapon', and as such they are only illegal in states which have assault weapon bans. That would be California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington D.C. and Hawaii.

^ Gotcha! That assault weapons ban thing sucks hi-grade peanuts for a lot of States. Now I see why so many people become gun lawyers. sad.gif

So these videos have been floating around the net for roughly a decade... anyone know where they're from? A Japanese gun magazine? A Sky Perfect TV show? Hideo Kojima Rei Hiroe & Kohta Hirano's private gun porn stash? A seinen gun club maid cafe? laugh.gif

Also are they still making these shorts? Cause I'd love me a spiffy Blu-Ray or at least a DVD of all these clips unsure.gif
