I finally completed the Proj D FD3S model. There are several problems with it (namely the rear light cluster, other little problems with part fitting and I got severe problems with clear coat application - this last one was completely solved).

Here are some photos:

Not to be a dick, but Keisukes RX-7 is a Zenki RX-7(a '92 model).

So your tail lights are wrong, they would be the old style tails and not the present RX-7 tails('98 model)..

You can see the correct tails on a previous page here, the Keisuke RX-7 with the Mazdaspeed front kit.

Personally my favorite kit for the FD, but the RE-Amemiya kit you made is perfect and definitely second to that!

If you wanna really try to make a hard model may i recommend you the Veilside R1 Street Drag (r32), Abflug s900 (supra) or the Scoot RX-7, they are really beautiful machinery.

Yes, you're absolutly right about the rear light cluster type being wrong for Keisukes RX-7.

I made a small comment about it and many other problems with this Fujimi model.
If I decided to make a correct version of the latest leavery of Keisukes RX-7 I would probably have to mix parts from 2 or 3 different kits (and probably still made some parts myself). I thought about it, but I don't do this for a living, so you can imagine that my time dedicated to the hobby is a bit limited and although I would love to have a perfect representation of Keisuke's FD3S, I have many other modelling projects to make (presently I'm working on more than 20 models, ranging from fantasy scale figures, to sci-fi, including also cars (obviouly), airplanes, AFV and historic figurines). I've recently completed an AFV model that took me almost 4 years to complete, and although it was research to the best of my abilities, it still has some areas where I simply had to make a "calculated guess".

Regarding the Veilside R1 Street Drag (r32), I bought a model (not the fujimi 1:12 scale model, as I only build cars in 1:24 or 1:25 scale) some 5 years ago to build it, where I would have to make the body kit myself, along with all the engine modifications, but already gave up that idea and my current plan is to build a R342! I've seen one making a drift demonstration in my home town a few years ago and fell in love with it's looks (but haven't started it yet, nor will it be started in a near future).

Cheers

Thank you all for your kind words.

My last post here was a bit defendive, but I just wanted to say that I was aware of the shorcomings of that particular model. I did studied the manga drawings and addressed the problems that I could easilly solve. I could have sorced out a Zenki model kit to sacrifice for the rear lights and the underside chassis (and I would have to search for an acurate one), but I'm sure that I would find a great number of fiting problems when joining everything together. So I made a compromise, allowing me to complete the model in a resonable timeframe. Just to put things in perpective, remember how long ago I've started the AE86? Well, it's not completed yet! And that model will also include inacuracies and other areas oversimplified.

Thanks for the suport.

Cheers

After a very loooong time on the "shelf of shame", the tofu shop trueno model returned to my workbench.

Bad news is that after such a long time, the clear coat I had applied was all cracked! At the time I was using a generic lacquer gloss coat from motip, if I remember correctly, and this lacquer dries really hard and so it is very brittle. I've stooped using it for my scale models (bit still like it very much for varnishing brass sheet that I use as labels for the bases of some models).

I decided to sand out most of the cracked clear coat and try to save the decals. I did not give up on this model simply because I had scratched built all the rear suspension elements, including the rear axis and differential housing. It was rewarding that I simply could not throw it away.

So here's a part that I start building more than 10 years ago and was just completed (it's the panhard rod of the rear suspension).

So all the undercarriage parts got a quick paint job and were fixed in place.

I also tried to had some dirt and grime to the bottom of the model, using Ammo's engine grime, engine oil and PLW dust products (all enamel based), applying them with brush, airbrush and sponge.

And here are two photos of the chassis on its wheels, showing the interior, completed some 10 years ago.

And here is the model shell. I'm presently applying white colour everywhere there are problems. I still have to touch up the black areas and clear coat the whole thing.

I hope to finally complete it soon.

After more than 10 years in the making, I finally completed this model. The result is not something I'm proud of, but at least it's completed and now there is space in the workbench for another project (this one was on and off the workbench for so long that the previously applied clear coat had to be sanded off as it cracked in so many places...).

Well, here are some photos of my Fujiwara Tofu Shop AE86 in 1:24 scale (Fujimi kit #183213):
